The Community Strategies to Advance Reproductive Justice and Equity (CARE) Lab is a collective of community leaders, researchers, students, and provders working together to address the root causes of reproductive and birth inequities—especially those affecting Black and Indigenous communities. We prioritize partnership and collaboration, centering those with lived experience in both the design and leadership of our projects.
Impactful Justice :
We conduct community-driven research that explores how racism, stress, and other social conditions impact reproductive and birth outcomes. Our work happens year-round and is grounded in real-time, place-based collaboration. Where we work is largely in California, with a special focus on communities that have historically faced systemic barriers to health equity.
Fueling Change:
Black and Indigenous women and birthing people are experiencing preventable complications and deaths at far higher rates than others. We believe that community-led research is essential to changing these outcomes. We do this by honoring community knowledge, offering training in research practices, and working alongside communities to produce findings that are actionable and just.
Remembering and Recognizing:
We are deeply grateful and honored to do this work, recognizing that we stand on the shoulders of our ancestors and the many leaders who came before us. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice have paved the way for us to continue fighting, pushing boundaries, and revolutionizing the way things are done. Guided by their legacy, we move forward with purpose, working to restore balance, reclaim dignity, and bring our communities back into harmony.
