About Us

Community Strategies to Advance Reproductive Justice and Equity (CARE) Lab led by Dr. Brittany D. Chambers seeks to understand how racism shapes the lives of BIPOC women and birthing people, developing meaningful ways to measure both interpersonal and structural racism.

Through research, policy, and advocacy, we aim to dismantle systemic racism by creating interventions that drive lasting change. We believe that knowledge should not only be produced within academic institutions but also shaped by the expertise of communities most affected. That’s why we train community researchers to design, implement, and share studies that advance reproductive health equity.

At the heart of this work is the Reproductive Justice framework, which centers Black and Indigenous women and birthing people. Inequities in reproductive health persist, with BIPOC communities bearing the greatest burden. Racism is the root cause of these injustices, yet the research field is still working to fully capture its impact and develop solutions that directly address it.

To truly advance reproductive justice, we must prioritize community voices and partnerships, ensuring that measures of racism, policies, and interventions are relevant, responsive, and led by those most impacted.
