The Supporting Our Ladies and Reducing Stress to Prevent Preterm Birth (SOLARS) study is a pioneering initiative designed by and for women of color to investigate:
How stress, anxiety, and racism contribute to preterm birth.
Understanding the biological pathways that link psychological stress to adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Investigating protective factors, including resilience and coping mechanisms, that may help mitigate these risks.
By analyzing both social and biological data, SOLARS aimed to develop interventions that improve pregnancy outcomes and reducing stress for communities of color.

Who We Are: A groundbreaking study investigating the impact of stress, anxiety, and racism on preterm birth among Black and Latine women and birthing people.
Who We Serve: Black and Latine women and birthing people at risk of preterm birth due to structural racism, stress, and healthcare inequities.
What We Do: We collect and analyze biological and survey data to understand how stress affects pregnancy and gestational duration.
Why This Matters: Preterm birth disproportionately affects communities of color, leading to lifelong health disparities for both parent and child.
