The Abundant Birth Project Evaluation Study is an evaluation of the Abundant Birth Project (ABP), a novel guaranteed income pilot program designed specifically for Black and Pacific Islander birthing people in the city. The initiative is a collaborative effort: UCSF and UCB Berkeley are partnering with the Expecting Justice (ABP), the organization responsible for implementing this pilot.
The purpose of the evaluation is to better understand the impact of providing unconditional cash supplements to Black and Pacific Islander mothers and birthing people. Specifically, the study will examine whether this financial support contributes to improvements in:
- Health outcomes : such as maternal health, birth outcomes, and overall physical wellbeing.
- Wellbeing : including mental health, stress reduction, and family stability.
- Economic outcomes : such as financial security, housing stability, and opportunities for advancement.
By focusing on these measures, the evaluation aims to determine whether guaranteed income can be an effective strategy for addressing inequities and supporting thriving families in these historically under-resourced communities.
